Asthma usually refers to Bronchial Asthma. It is considered as one of the major killers in the world. About one in fifteen elderly people is having asthma whose symptoms are breathlessness or chest tightness, wheezing or coughing.
Asthma is nothing but the narrowing of the wind pipe called trachea. It gets constricted and hence the body doesn’t get enough air flow. This is followed by a lack of oxygen in the body. This causes exhaustion of every cell and tissue of the body. Therefore it is advisable for a person to carry a device called as an inhaler which supplies the drug that expands or dilates the wind pipe saving a person from the fatal attack of asthma.
Ayurveda considers this as Tamaka Shwasa (say – ta ma ka shwaa s) which can turn into a fatal case. However there are five types of shwasa roga (breathlessness conditions) in Ayurveda, but tamaka shwasa resembles to bronchial asthma.
