This could be one of the most popular and known to everyone diseases. This is considered as metabolic disorder of the body. This is mother of so many diseases i.e. if one is affected by this, must be welcoming many diseases. The body utilizes the sugar in the body as this, being important for each and every cell and tissue. Insulin is the hormone secreted by pancreas regulates the utilization of sugar within the body. When the cell is unable to use or there is less or bad production of insulin by pancreas the cell can’t consume glucose which is present in blood stream. This gives raise the glucose in the blood creating the disease called diabetes. When one refers to diabetes, it is diabetes mellitus in general. The rest being diabetes insipidus is rare and not common.
There are two types of diabetes namely type one or Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus and type two that is non insulin diabetes mellitus. The first one is IDDM and the later is NIDDM. In second or type two diabetes there could be less production of insulin but in first there is no production of insulin at all hence one has to depend on the inject able insulin.
Ayurveda describes this as madhumeha (say – ma doo me haa). This literally means there is free flow of the urine that is honeyed or smells or taste like honey. There are twenty types of prameha (the sugar condition) out of which madhumeha resembles to the diabetes mellitus. Ayurveda believes this as Kapha Dosha and Vata Dosha combined situation. Being so dangerous, this may turn into fatal condition.
