Home Remedies for Yeast Infection

SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Yeast infection can occur in any part of the body such as underarms, between toes, etc. in both men and women. In women yeast infection is very common in vagina, so common that 75% of women have it at some time in their lives.

Yeast are minute organisms (candida fungus) that live in small numbers on human body. The problem arises when their number grows. The acidity of the vagina prevents yeast from growing. If the acidity of the vagina decreases, then too many yeast grow, causing vaginal infection. The acidity of the vagina can be changed due to menstruation period, pregnancy, diabetes or birth control pills. A fungus called Candida albicans causes vaginal yeast infections.

Symptoms of Yeast Infection

  • Itching and burning in the vagina.
  • Swelling, itching, and burning around the vulva (the skin that surrounds your vagina).
  • A white thick vaginal discharge that is mostly odorless.
  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • soreness & rash on outer lips of the vagina.
  • burning during urination.

Do's and Dont's

  • You should not keep your stomach empty for a long time.
  • Heavy indigestable food, sour things should be avoided.
  • Relieve itching with a cold water compress or cool baths.
  • Wash the vaginal and genital area once a day with plain water or a mild, nonperfumed soap. Rinse well and dry thoroughly.
  • Wear cotton and avoid tight-fitting clothing. Avoid tight jeans
  • Avoid the use of feminine deodorant sprays and other perfumed products. They irritate and dry tender skin.
  • Avoid douching.
  • Eat a balanced diet, which will help keep your body healthy and help maintain a normal balance of organisms in the vagina.

Home Remedies of Yeast Infection (For Yeast Infection in vagina:)

  • Dip a tampon in plain yogurt (curd, yoghurt) containing Lactobacillus acidophilus, and insert into the vagina twice a day until your symptoms clear up. Repeat this until one day after the symptoms disappear.
  • Peel a fresh clove of garlic and make a little tampon by wrapping it in cheesecloth and tying with unwaxed dental floss. You may leave a bit of floss to pull it out afterward. Insert it in vagina and leave there for several hours, say overnight, and remove it in the morning. For severe infection, try this in the morning and during night both. Repeat this until one day after the symptoms disappear.
Pour a few drops of Teatree oil (available from natural health stores) on a lubricated tampon & insert into the vagina. It is an effective home remedy for yeast infection.
  • Add 1 Tbsp of Apple Cider Vinegar in 2 cups of water and put 1 garlic clove in it. Let it stand for some time and use this for douching.
  • Insert 1 or 2 capsules of boric acid into the vagina and keep it there overnight for several nights. For some women the boric acid may cause burning and discomfort for the first few days.
  • Dissolve 1 Tbsp of potassium sorbate in 1 cup water. Insert a tampon into the vagina and pour this solution inside to be absorbed by the tampon. Keep it there overnight. Repeat this for several nights. It is also a good remedy for yeast infection.
  • For other parts of the Body: Apply fresh garlic paste directly on the affected part of the body.

I heard Listerine was good for a yeast infection. Is that true? Help please!

I use to suffer from chronic yeast infections until I started taking coconut oil daily. It is a natural candida yeast balancer and I have not suffered one yeast infection since - and that was nearly 2 years ago!!! One teaspoon a day after a meal to start is sufficient.

TEA TREE OIL VAGINAL SUPPOSITORIES!!! Great for any vaginal problems... I had a Urinary Tract Infection and was in the worst pain of my life.. The burning was horrible!! I was desperate so I Googled for help.. People kept saying tea tree oil worked. So the next day I rushed to our local Health Food Store and there they were a gift from God. A box of tea tree oil vaginal suppositories. I ran home and used one, and instantly it soothed everything!!! I love these and will always keep a box on hand. If you do not have a local health food store, try Google(ing) Tea Tree Oil Vaginal Suppositories ... EVERY woman should know about these!! It could have saved me from a lot of pain and tears over the years from UTI's and Yeast infections!!

I get really bad yeast infections where i get sorelike rash and at first i thought it was something else. They hurt really bad and even water irratate them. I am scared to put any else on it. what you think will soothe and help them go away. Because the Doctor is no help he made it worst with his creams and sprays!!!

I read elsewhere that boric acid was dangerous and should not be used . . . beware.

I found the yogurt thing worked! Use plain, never sweetened.

Pour one cup of distilled white vinegar in a douche and fill the rest with warm water. (You need the reusable douche kit that is often made of red rubber like a hot water bottle.) Douche once in the morning and once at night. Keep the little douche wand clean by storing it in a ziplock when you're not using it. It seems that often a yeast infection comes along with that time of the month. At least this method can be used if this is the case. Best of luck to you.
