This is the period or state of the woman, after conception until the birth of the baby or it is described as the period of development of the ovum from fertilization to the birth.
Pregnancy is a period of 9 months i.e. 40 weeks. Generally delivery or birth of baby occurs about 38 weeks from fertilization.
The whole period of 9 months is divided into 3 trimesters.
- First trimester i.e. from conception to 3 rd month. This time is having more risk of miscarriage i.e. death of fetus.
- Second trimester i.e. from 4 th month to 6 th month. During this time, development starts along with the monitoring and diagnosis of the fetus.
- Third trimester i.e. from 7 th month to the birth of the baby. Further development of the baby like skin, hair, nails, etc. and even this period marks the ability of the baby to survive, with or without mother or drugs.
