[toc]Chilblains are the tenderness, redness and swelling in the skin of usually feet and hands. The small blood vessels beneath the skin become inflamed and cause itchiness. The general causes to this may be poor blood circulation, cold sensitivity, wearing ill-fitted footwear etc. The affected area turns reddish or bluish purple and sometimes it is marked with blisters and ulcers.
The problem is seen in both men and women, although women are more prone to getting affected. Those who are underweight are also prone to this condition. Chilblains are more common in winter season which is between November and April. Here are some home remedies to fight chilblains.

Garlic is seen to have positive effects in curing chilblains. It instantly reduces inflammation and itchiness. Take few garlic cloves and crush them properly making a thick paste using water. Now apply this paste on the affected area. If it is the toes and fingers, make sure that you apply it in between the fingers too. Alternatively, you can make a garlic juice and have it at least twice a day. You can also rinse the affected area with this juice to see fast results.
Potato & Salt
Potato is quite a handy and effective home remedy for chilblains. Slice a raw potato in slices, take a slice and sprinkle some common salt on it. Now rub the affected area with that salt sprinkled raw potato slice. Do this at least twice or thrice a day. Alternatively, you can boil the potatoes and take the water that was used for boiling to rinse the affected part with. It reduces inflammation and cures chilblains fast.
The main reason of chilblains is poor blood circulation. If the circulation is good such that blood reaches the small blood vessels of the affected area, the chilblains will not occur there. You are recommended to do some cardiovascular exercises and breathing exercises daily so that your blood circulation becomes good and blood reaches to the extremities like fingers tips, toes etc. Performing exercises also keeps your body warm so it is effective in preventing chilblains.
Onion, Honey & Lemon
Onions are well known for suppressing inflammation and itching. Take few onions and crush sieve them into juice. You can have this juice twice a day and amidst all you can also rinse the affected part with this juice. Lemon juice also works the same way on chilblains. You can rinse the affected part or mop it thrice a day with lemon juice. You can also use honey to cure chilblains. Make thin dough of wheat flour using one tablespoon of honey, glycerin and egg white. Apply this on the affected area as it saves it from cold.
Black Pepper & Sesame Oil
It is quite a popular home remedy for chilblains. Fry few peppercorns in sesame oil or mustard oil, in case sesame oil is not available. Strain the solution and use it for massaging the affected area. Do not use this remedy if you have blisters and ulcers on skin as it will cause further pain. You can also add pepper accordingly in your daily diet to see fast results.
