[toc]Lice are small parasites that live on the hair scalp and the shaft of the hair. It is a common myth that lice are an indication of poor hygiene but anyone can easily get infected with lice and they do not cause any disease. They cause severe itching of the scalp and that’s how they are detected. Lice can be transmitted by being in close proximity with people who have lice, sharing clothing with infected people or dirty sheets and carpets where lice have been present.
Lice are more common in women than men because they like to grow and lay eggs behind the ear lobe or on the back of the neck and also because women generally have longer hair. Lice can be easy to recognize but not so easy to eliminate but here are a few natural remedies that will help you eliminate lice:
5 Natural Cures For Lice
Tea Tree Oil
Lice tend to breathe with the cavities on their bodies. They can live without breathing for about 8 hours and the point of using tea tree oil is to suffocate them. Apply lots of oil on the entire scalp and the hair shaft and leave it on for more than 8 hours or you can leave it overnight as well.
Worth Buying
The lice will surely suffocate by the time your kid wakes up in the morning and then you can wash off the hair with an anti-lice shampoo.
Nit Comb
It is the most common and traditional method of clearing out lice. Apply tea tree oil to a particular section of hair and comb it out using a fine toothed comb. Try to clear out all the lice eggs which are present on the hair shaft.
Do this treatment three times a day for the first week and then every night for the second week. By the second week, you’ll find that the lice are all gone. Make sure you clean the comb each time you use it.
Apple Cider Vinegar
It creates a very difficult atmosphere for the lice to survive and does not damage your hair so you can use apple cider vinegar on your hair as the treatment for lice.
Rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar after shampooing every time. You can also repeat the procedure with the nit comb after rinsing with apple cider vinegar.
Garlic
Garlic has anti bacterial properties. Take about 8 cloves of garlic and add a few drops of lime juice. Make it into a paste and apply it on your hair for about one hour. You can then wash it away with shampoo or just rinse with some vinegar.
Heating Oil
For this, you must mix a few drops of tea tree oil, neem oil, eucalyptus oil and lavender oil. All these together have anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties which will kill parasites like lice in your hair.
After performing the rinsing with apple cider vinegar allow your hair to dry and then apply the mixture of these oils. Leave it overnight and wash it off with an anti-lice shampoo in the morning.
