[toc]Skincare is part of our daily routine. We cleanse, moisturize and exfoliate to make sure our skin is healthy and clean. Of the different skin types, sensitive skin is often perceived as the most difficult to care for. Sensitive skin is identified by frequent breakouts (pustules) as a result of an allergic reaction or exposure to the elements. People with sensitive or eroded skin are prone to rashes, eczema and rosacea. The trick to keeping your skin healthy and protecting it from irritants lies in choosing a suitable skin care routine.
To begin with, use only gentle, fragrance-free cleansers. Most people with sensitive skin experience peeling and dryness so be very careful while cleansing and moisturizing. You can use simple ingredients that can be found in your home. Not all home treatments are suitable for sensitive skin. You may come across advice telling you to apply vinegar or lemon juice to your face. However, ingredients that are highly acidic in nature are not suitable for sensitive skin.
5 Various Ways To Cure Sensitive Skin
Yogurt And Curd
Worth Buying
Yogurt contains lactic acid which is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). AHAs are commonly present in personal care products such as skin lightening creams, cleansers, moisturizers and skin peels. Since lactic acid is present naturally in yogurt, it is safe to use on sensitive skin.
Yogurt moisturizes the skin and improves its appearance. It is also used with a mild abrasive agent such as rice flour to exfoliate the skin. Make this face mask to brighten and soothe your skin. Mix one tablespoon of yogurt with 1 tablespoon of mashed papaya. Apply to the face and neck. Leave the mask on for 10 minutes and then rinse with cool water.
Honey
Sensitive skin is prone to inflammation, redness and skin blemishes. Honey is perfect for treating all these minor skin problems. It has anti-inflammatory properties as well as a gentle cleansing action on the skin. If you have acne and your skin is lately reacting to the regular cleanser you use, replace it with honey. Keep a small jar of honey handy in your bathroom. Make a paste of 2 teaspoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of gram flour to reduce blemishes.
Rose Water
Sensitive skin can bruise easily. Acne, dry itchy skin and pustules can make the skin sensitive to the touch. This may cause a burning sensation, especially if you apply any medication. Products with fragrance or a strong balance of chemicals can cause severe reactions in sensitive skin so use a safe home remedy instead.
Rose water has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties which make it the perfect home remedy for sensitive skin. It hydrates the skin, leaving it smoother and fresher. Pour a little rose water into a clean spray bottle. Spritz a little on to your face whenever your skin turns dry or itchy.
Raw Milk
Pollution, stress and anxiety can have a very bad effect on sensitive skin. It is important to rejuvenate it with a chemical-feel agent. Raw milk is excellent for imparting a glow to tired and weather-worn skin. It has enzymes, vitamins B12 and B6 that are beneficial in restoring brightness.
Raw milk is unpasteurized and unboiled. Mix one tablespoon of raw milk with a few drops of almond oil. Apply this to your face with a cotton swab. Allow it to remain for 10 minutes and then rinse off. You can also use just plain, cold raw milk to soothe red or inflamed skin.
Banana
Bananas contain vitamins A, B and E. Eating them provides nourishment to the body and applying them to the skin makes it feel smoother and softer. Mash half an over-ripe banana with one tablespoon of gram flour and smooth all over the face and neck. Once it dries, wash off with cold water. Apply this face mask once a week for healthier looking skin. You can also make a paste of banana, raw milk and honey to brighten sensitive skin.
