There are many reasons why baldness occurs. In this article, we will be looking at some of the causes that result in baldness. Let us take a look!
Causes Of Baldness
Hormonal Factors
Baldness most of the time occurs due to hormonal factors. It is one of the most common hereditary conditions that are seen in a wide variety of people. Hormonal imbalances and changes can cause temporary as well as permanent hair loss that leads to baldness. Hormonal changes also occur during pregnancy and so it is seen that many women end up losing a great amount of hair while pregnant.
Alopecia Areata
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition in which the person’s autoimmune system attacks the hair follicles. This causes one to three patches of hair loss. Sometimes, these patches get regrowth of hair within a period of 6 months even without treatment. But many times, it is seen that alopecia totalis occurs that leads to complete baldness.
Fungal Infections
Baldness can also occur as a result of fungal infections. Such infections can affect the hair growth pattern on the body. The fungal infection hits the area of the scalp and attacks the hair follicles causing an immense hair fall which ultimately lead to baldness.
Depression
Depression is the most common reason that is causing the problem of baldness in many people. With people leading an overactive life in the 21st century and fidgeting with family, work and other affairs at the same time it is natural for one to go into depression. Depression leads to thinning of hair and fall and eventually baldness too.
Traction Alopecia
There are certain hairstyles that exert too much of pressure on the roots of your hair. This causes you to lose much more hair than what is necessary or natural. Traction alopecia is the name given to this condition.
Pigtails and cornrows are two hairstyles that pull the hair too tightly and exert a lot of pressure on the hair. It can be a reason of a balding mane. You can avoid it by ensuring that you don’t bind or tie your hair in an extremely tight manner to the extent of causing hair loss.
Trichotillomania
Some people have a bad habit of pulling their hair very frequently. They do it mostly in a state of unconsciousness or while they are stressed or in a deep thought. Such a condition is termed as Trichotillomania.
This condition results in broken hair strands instead of patches of baldness. However, it can lead to baldness if done over a considerable period of time. The only possible way of getting rid of this problem is to become aware of your condition and resolve it quickly to avoid indulging in it.
