Barberry Plants
Barberry plant or Berberis vulgaris commonly called as mountain grape has been used as a home remedy since ancient times. An alkaloid called Berberine isoquinolone found in the rhizome, stem bark and roots effective in fighting against viral, bacterial, fungal infections. It is the best remedy for eyewash when eyes are infected. First the plant should be boiled in water and then allowed to cool for some time. After cooling, the eyes should be washed with it.
Honey
Honey is a powerful remedy for several infections. It has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal properties. When honey is mixed with water or milk, the power of honey fighting against infections increases and it is a very effective cure for conjunctivitis. Goldenseal
Goldenseal is a perennial plant and is of great medicinal use Nat. This plant has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. The plant contains Berberine which is very effective in fighting the bacteria that cause conjunctivitis. To make the solution, two teaspoons of golden seal is mixed with a cup of boiled water. Add chamomile and comfrey and the mixture should be boiled for 10-15 minutes. After straining, this mixture is used as an eye wash. Use this atleast once a day for effective results.
Teabags
Teabags can be a good cure for conjunctivitis. The teabag should be boiled for 10-15 minutes in water and then removed to cool down a bit. Remember not to squeeze out the teabag. Let the teabag cool until it becomes slightly warm and then use this on the affected eye. Both black and green tea contains bioflavonoids that reduce the infection and fight the bacteria and viruses. Keeping the moist teabag slightly warm on the affected areas helps a lot in reducing the infection.
Potato
Potato can be used effectively in curing conjunctivitis or eye infection, as potato is a natural astringent. Placing a slice of potato on the eye gives relief to eye infections. Poultice can be made with potato extract and can be used on the affected eyes to cure. The slice of potato or poultice should be kept on the eyes for few minutes and then it should be removed. This treatment should be carried on for three days, atleast thrice a day.
