7 Effective Yoga Poses For Acid Reflux

1. Decent Pose

Decent Pose or Sukhasana is the most basic yoga pose; yet effective. It helps in calming down your entire and restores the balance. For this pose you need to sit on the yoga mat with cross folded legs. Place your hands on the sides with your fingers forming a mudra (thumb and index finger joined together). Once in this position maintain a rhythmic breath in and breath out cycle. Make repetitions of 20 in 3 sets for reducing acid reflux.[1]

2. The Lotus Pose

The lotus pose is a modification of the sukhasana pose. For this pose you need to sit with crossed legs and hands on the sides as in the sukhasana pose. Once in this position bring your leg till your thigh so as to completely cross your legs and form a lotus shape. It needs a lot of practice to form this shape and must be done under guidance. Rhythmic breath in and breath out cycles of 10 in 3 sets must be performed for best results.[2]

3. Corpse Pose

Corpse Pose or Shavasana means lying down on the floor. Shav – means a dead body and shavasana is to lie on the ground behaving as a dead body. You need to lie down on a floor mat with both hands straight on the sides with gentle breath in and breath out. This yoga exercise helps in greatly reducing acidity and also helps to improve digestion.

4. Skull Shining Breathing Technique

Skull Shining Breathing Technique or Kapalbhati is a yoga exercise especially meant for the digestive system. For this yoga pose you need to sit on the ground in a sukhasana pose. Once in the pose place of your hand on the belly and with abdominal thrusts push the air outside from your stomach. You need to point here that the breath out has to be from the stomach and your lungs. For best results you must do set of 3 and 30 repetitions in each. The Kapalbhatti exercise helps in keeping your digestive and excretory system healthy which benefit in acid reflux.

5. Belly Flipping

Belly Flipping or Agnisar kriya is explained by the term stimulating the digestive fire. This yoga exercise helps in building immunity and strengthens the gut muscles thereby helping in cleansing the digestive system. It sure helps with acidity but also helps in treating a number of other diseases like diabetes, heart diseases obesity etc.

6. Alternate Nostril Breathing

Alternate Nostril Breathing or Anulom vilom is mainly a breathing exercise; it imparts excellent benefits in reducing acidity. In this yoga exercise you need to close one of your nostril and breath in with other nostril then opening the closed nostril to release the air. It is a rhythmic cycle of breathing in from one nostril and breathing out from the other nostril.

7. Thunderbolt

Thunderbolt or Vajrasana is a yoga pose which requires sitting in the kneeling position. You basically rest your body on the knees and your calves. It helps in treating constipation, digestive problems as well as strengthens the muscles of legs.
