The best and safest way to treat sunburn is to avoid being in the hot sun for too long without any protection. There are a number of helpful ways in the market. Sunscreen is the best choice, as it covers the skin completely and acts as a shield for the UV rays of the sun. There are different SPF ranges in the sunscreen in the market. You can always get one according to your skin.

Choose the sunscreen with a high SPF as it will give you maximum coverage. Waterproof sunscreen is also available in the market these days and it is a safe choice for many when visiting pool parties or beaches. Wear a hat and cover your skin with loose clothes. You can also have fun in the sun with proper protection.

Aloe Vera has a soothing tendency and it relieves you off the pain and calms down the sunburn. It is an inexpensive investment and is readily available in the market outside. Aloe Vera has other benefits too and if it is applied in a right fashion then it will turn the sunburn into a suntan. You will notice that there is less of peeling of the skin too.

Yoghurt

Take out the coolest tub of yoghurt from your refrigerator. Always check the label to make sure that it contains live bacteria. Add a spoon of Aloe Vera gel to the yoghurt and mix this paste well with the help of a spoon. The Aloe Vera will add extra soothing properties to yoghurt. Now, if you do not have Aloe Vera at home, you could also make a paste of half strawberries and half yoghurt.

You must spread this mixture on the affected areas generously with the help of a spatula or your fingers. Make a thick layer of the yoghurt mixture over the affected area so that it is completely covered. Wait for 20 minutes or more so that the yoghurt and strawberries soothe your skin completely and the mixture dries up.

Wipe the paste away as soon as the mixture becomes warm or dry. If you feel burning sensation or pains in the affected area then reapply this mixture. Repeat this process till the pain reduces completely. Rinse the yoghurt mixture with cool water to minimize the pain.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Make a mixture of 1 to 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a cup of cold water. You can use a wash cloth or gauze for this activity. Soak the piece of cloth in the above prepared mixture and then wrap the cloth around the affected skin areas. Remove the cloth when it becomes warm. You can repeat this process as long as you need.

After you have finished you can apply aloe vera moisturizer on the affected area so that the sunburn does not dry the skin completely. You can also make this mixture and keep it in a spray bottle. This way you can just spray the liquid on the affected area as desired.

You can then let the air dry and then repeat. When you have a bath, you can add 2 cups of apple cider vinegar in the bath water. But always remember that during this time, the bath water must always be cool. Do not wipe your skin, dab the excess water off the skin with a soft towel. Always apply a moisturizer.

Castor Oil

Sunburn can result in inflammation, redness, irritation, blisters and extreme pain. These blisters that burst make you a lot more vulnerable to other kind of infection. The ricinoleic acid in castor oil will protect the skin from bacteria, lower the redness and inflammation.

Therefore, when you want to apply castor oil, just dip a cotton ball in the liquid and dab on the affected area every day during morning and night time. If the area of sunburn is small, then you can also dip a band-aid in castor oil and apply to the area.

Calendula Oil

You can also apply calendula oil to the sunburn area. To do this you will have to take 20 drops of calendula oil and mix in 4 oz. of water. Apply to the skin using cotton balls or a soft cloth.

Calendula is readily available in the form of gel and salves. You can also buy it from market and use them. The anti-bacterial properties will help in easing the inflammation, soften the skin and relieve the pain.

St. John’s Wort Oil is also a great remedy for sunburn. Mix this with a tablespoon of olive oil or almond oil and apply on the affected areas of the skin.

Sea Buckthorn Oil

Rub the mixture of a few drops of sea buckthorn oil and almond oil into the affected area of the skin. Repeat the process three times a day. The sea buckthorn oil will reduce the damage that is caused by sunburn in the process of healing.
