Various Treatments For Menopause

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone replacement therapy replaces the female hormone as the hormones like oestrogen decrease in a woman’s body during menopause. This is carried out by three primary therapies like hormone replacement therapy, combined hormone replacement therapy and continuous hormone replacement therapy.

This therapy can be administered as a skin patch, a cream, a gel, a tablet or an implant. Side effects like nausea, headaches, tender breasts; mood swings etc. are associated with hormone replacement therapy. You can change the type and the dosage of the therapy to reduce the symptoms.

TiboloneIt is a synthetic hormone which acts in the same manner as the hormone replacement therapy. In place of combined hormone replacement therapy, women can use this in the post-menopausal period to stop the menstrual cycle.

This man-made hormone is effective in dealing with problems like hot flashes and night sweats. It is also useful in treating sexual problems and also prevents fractures of the spinal cord. It is generally not prescribed to women over sixty and has been linked to breast cancer, cancer of the womb and stroke.

ClonidineThough, this medication was originally recommended for high blood pressure, it can work on certain symptoms associated with menopause, like hot flashes and night sweats. However, to know its efficacy in your situation you need to take the medicine for at least two to four weeks.

If your condition does not improve it is recommended that you go back to your previous medication. This medicine can sometimes cause symptoms like dry mouth, depression, constipation, drowsiness and fluid retention among others.

venlafaxineAntidepressants like venlafaxine, fluoxetine, citalopram and paroxetine are used to treat menopause. Such drugs can cause side effects like nausea, anxiety, dry mouth and sleeping disorders. If you fall into the category of women who cannot take oestrogens or need anti-depressants for mood disorder, you can try this class of drugs. Some low doses of anti-depressants are also used.

HomeopathyThe natural remedies and treatments provided by homeopathy can go a long way in treating menopause. Homeopathy uses medicines like Cimicifuga, Lachesis and Sepia to treat menopause. Cimicifuga is known to be a cure for night sweats, vaginal dryness, mood swings and bleeding.
